SHL Verify Interactive – Numerical Reasoning

This version presents activity-based, interactive questions where you have to drag and drop, adjust charts and graphs, etc. to solve the presented problems.

Question: Graph the phone call rates (cents per hour) for each quarter.

$1 = 100 cents. Hence the following calculations give the answers:

For 1st Quarter: ($166.2 * 100) / 20 = 831 cents per hour.

For 2nd Quarter: ($83.5 * 100) / 10 = 835 cents per hour.

For 3rd Quarter: ($125.55 * 100) / 15 = 837 cents per hour.

Costs after applying discount:

1 carton of Milk = $39.99 * 0.9 = $35.99

1 pack of tortillas = $9 * 0.9 = $8.1

1 tub of butter = $10 * 0.9 = $9

1 carton of milk + 2 packs of tortillas = $35.99 + (2 * $8.1) = $52.19

Remaining money for butter = 100 – $52.19 = $47.81

Number of tubs of butter that can be bought = $47.81 / 10 = 4.7 ~ 4

Tip: When you have calculated the remaining money for butter, round off this value from $47.81 to  $40, since butter costs $10 and the cost of butter tubs would be a multiple of 10. This reduces a complex multiplication step in the end. 

Learn the basics: Before you take the test, ensure you know how to use basic mathematical operations and unit conversions, do calculations, and interpret different charts and graphs. Knowing fundamental concepts and techniques will drastically reduce your problem-solving time in the actual test.

Find the right kind of preparation material: Make sure that the preparation material or prep pack you’re using is not outdated. Practicing irrelevant questions will only be a waste of time. Use your time wisely: There is no negative scoring in SHL tests in case of incorrect answers so try to attempt all the questions. Don’t spend too much time on one question. If you're unable to solve a particular question, take a guess and move to the next one. Spending too much time on one question will give you less time to focus on the remaining questions. Distribute the time you have been given wisely.

Use timesaving approaches: With enough practice and by using our carefully designed prep pack, you can learn useful shortcuts to help you solve a question quickly. For example, 10% of 58 is the same as 58% of 10, but the latter is easier and quicker to work out.

Take full-length assessments: Taking full-length timed assessments will give you a fair idea of your speed and accuracy. It will make you aware of your progress and let you know where and how much you need to improve.

Getting ready for the test day: Make sure to get a good night’s sleep before the test. Since the assessment involves numerical computations, you must approach it with a fresh mind. Ensure you have a stable internet connection and a quiet place to take the test. Keep a pen and notepad close by for notes.
